HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c433W
Captain Plugge

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, as soon as opportunities permit, he will ensure the installation of sufficient refrigerating plant at Billingsgate to prevent the waste of food, quantities of which is still condemned?

Mr. Mabane

I am informed that generally speaking fish condemned at Billingsgate in recent months has arrived at that market in a condition which was unsuitable for placing in cold stare and that the provision of additional facilities such as my hon. and gallant Friend suggests would not have the result either of reducing the quantity condemned or of increasing the supplies fit for human consumption to any considerable extent.
