HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c440W
Sir R. Gower

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether it is intended to issue another warning to the public on the need for economy in the use of coal?

Major Lloyd George

Yes, Sir.

Sir Smedley Crooke

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that the miners at a colliery in Nottinghamshire are now accepting savings certificates in lieu of that part of their wages formerly paid in coal; in view of this, can he now state the result of his deliberations with the miners' representatives and mine-owners on the suggestion recently submitted to him by the hon. Member for Deritend which would result in the saving of a considerable amount of coal?

Major Lloyd George

The answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir." As regards the second part, proposals have been prepared by my Department for a scheme on the general lines suggested by my hon. Friend and I understand that these proposals will be considered by a joint meeting of both sides of the industry at a very early date.
