HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c453W
Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Home Secretary whether, under the new regulations, it is permissible to arrange for the sounding of chimes or carillons?

Mr. H. Morrison

Yes, Sir, provided that their sound is not liable to be mistaken for a signal in connection with an air raid, e.g. a handbell which is still the "all clear" signal if gas is used in an air attack.
