HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 c255W
Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the present position in regard to the discussions which have been proceeding over the adoption of some existing or artificial language as the normal medium for international communications, treaties, &c.; and has the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics been a party to, consulted on, or informed of these discussions?

Mr. Eden

A Cabinet Committee has been set up to study and report upon Basic English, but deliberations have not reached a stage where other Governments can usefully be consulted. Discussions have also taken place among the Allied Governments and the French National Committee on the desirability of introducing a world language.
