HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 cc225-6W
Sir R. Clarry

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works whether he is aware that during the coming winter months a large quantity of highly specialised plant, with its accompanying labour, will be released from the construction of aerodromes and similar essential war work; and what provision is being made for the absorption of this plant and labour in the construction of arterial roads and the essential preparation of sites for housing development?

Mr. Hicks

Whilst there are, from time to time, changes in the incidence of the Government building programme, it is not anticipated that any labour will become redundant within the next few months. Any excavating plant which becomes available will be used in the winning of outcrop coal and other essential work.
