HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 cc233-4W
Sir W. Davison

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in allocating shipping space in vessels sailing from Portugal to Great Britain, he will consider providing space for the supply of olive oil, which is practically unobtainable in this country, as a part of the reservation recently made for the shipment of wine from Spain and Portugal?

Mr. Mabane

Unfortunately my hon. Friend's suggestion is impracticable as Portugal is short of oils and fats and has not an exportable surplus. The Spanish Government has prohibited the export of olive oil from Spain.
