HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 c235W
Mr. Mainwaring

asked the Minister of Health what is the proportion of hospital accommodation to the total population, respectively, for England and Wales, giving, separately, the special provision for tubercular cases?

Miss Horsbrugh

According to such information as is at my right hon. Friend's disposal, the number of staffed beds in general hospitals in England and Wales is about 9 per 1,000 of population. These figures exclude sanatoria, mental and isolation hospitals, and private institutions. Beds specifically reserved for tuberculosis cases represent about.7 per 1,000 of population for England and.9 per 1,000 for Wales.
