HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 c244W
Captain P. Macdonald

asked the Secretary of State for War whether experiments have been made in appointing Africans as platoon commanders in native forces; and whether such a scheme has justified its extension?

Mr. A. Henderson

Yes, Sir. African platoon commanders have been employed with success in the East African Colonial Infantry battalions for just over a year. It is considered, however, that an extension of this policy should not be undertaken until further experience has been gained of its operation.
