§ Mr. Parkerasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport what progress has been made since last December by his consultation with the Minister of Fuel and Power on further measures of rationalisation of coal distribution; and in how many. towns local schemes are in operation, in active preparation, or have been abandoned since last December, respectively?
§ Mr. Noel-BakerA good deal has been done since last December to rationalise the delivery of coal for domestic consumption. In general, throughout the country, coal merchants are only allowed a given quantity of motor fuel per ton of coal delivered. In most urban areas, and in many rural districts, deliveries around each depot have been zoned. Schemes for mare drastic rationalisation are in force in at least 26 places; similar schemes are under consideration elsewhere.
