§ Mr. Hewlettasked the Postmaster-General the approximate number of postcards from prisoners of war in the Far East which were destroyed in the recent plane disaster in Ireland; how many were salvaged; whether any control is exercised over the identity of the senders; and what steps are being taken to notify the senders that their missives have not reached their destinations?
§ Captain CrookshankAbout 26,000 cards and letters from British prisoners of war in the Far East were destroyed and about 11,000 were salvaged. I regret that, as there are no means of identifying, the senders of the correspondence which was destroyed, it is not possible to notify the senders that their letters did not reach their destination.
