HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 c39W
Mr. Hannah

asked the Minister of Health why some firms and not others are permitted to purchase sunray lamps for the benefit of their workers employed on night shifts, although medical men urge their use in all cases where they can be employed and the Ministry of Labour is insisting on the maximum effort for welfare work?

Miss Horsbrugh

The Ministry of Health acts as adviser to the Board of Trade on applications by factories for licence to acquire sunray lamps. In respect of certain types of apparatus the Ministry's medical advisers have to consider whether adequate medical and nursing staff are available at the premises to ensure that treatment is given under proper supervision. If these conditions are fulfilled it is usual to recommend approval to acquire the apparatus provided alternative facilities for the treatment are not readily available.
