HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 cc64-5W
Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs what action is to be taken to implement the recommendations of the council on nutrition of the Newfoundland Medical Association?

Mr. Attlee

I have recently approved proposals by the Commission of Government for the launching of a special nutrition campaign under the auspices of the Nutrition Council in Newfoundland. An expert dietitian is being engaged for the purpose and certain other measures recommended by the council, e.g., for the importation of chemically reinforced flour, are also being introduced. It is hoped by these means to bring about a general improvement in dietary habits and to check at the outset the spreading of deficiency diseases, which, notwithstanding improved economic conditions, have lately tended to reappear.
