§ Sir A. Southbyasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the need for the training of a suitable proportion of young men and women in science, he will take such steps as are necessary to ensure that there shall be a sufficient number of laboratory assistants available in schools and training establishments to enable scientific instruction to be carried out?
§ Mr. BevinThe existing arrangements have been devised with the object which my hon. and gallant Friend has in mind and I do not think that any further steps are necessary. Except where it is established, in consultation. with the Board of Education, the Scottish Education Department or the University Grants Committee, that the workers in question are redundant, they are not withdrawn from their employment until satisfactory substitutes have been provided.
