HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 c38W
Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Minister of Health whether his Ministry has up-to-date records of the extent of slum conditions in commercial buildings, warehouses, works and factories; and will such properties be dealt with in a similar way to slum houses?

Miss Horsbrugh

No, Sir. The conditions in buildings of the type mentioned are not the responsibility of the Ministry of Health. As my hon. Friend is no doubt aware, however, under Section 25 (1) of the Housing Act, 1936, a local authority may include in a clearance area buildings other than houses which for the same reasons as justify the condemnation of the houses are dangerous or injurious to the health of the inhabitants of the area.
