HC Deb 26 October 1943 vol 393 c42W
Major Nield

asked the President of the Board of Education whether there is in existence any scheme whereby specialist teachers, for example, teachers in advanced mathematics, are fairly distributed among schools, so that as many schools as possible may provide their pupils with such specialised teaching; and, if not, whether he will consider introducing such a scheme?

Mr. Butler

Such a scheme as my hon. and gallant Friend has in mind is not in operation and would be practicable only if teachers could be directed to teach in particular schools. I am, however, at present giving particular consideration to the question of maintaining and, if possible, increasing the supply of specialist teachers in science and mathematics.
