HC Deb 26 October 1943 vol 393 c38W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that no builder is now able, or willing, to enter into any firm contract for the repair of houses or cottages in view of the high cost, not yet stabilised, of labour and material; and, under these circumstances, on what grounds has the limiting figure of £250 been arrived at?

Miss Horsbrugh

The reply to the first part of the Question is "No, Sir," the limiting figure mentioned in the second part was adopted, in accordance with the recommendation made by representatives of local authorities, in order to secure with the labour and materials available, the maximum amount of improvement to the largest possible number of houses.
