HC Deb 21 October 1943 vol 392 c1532W
Major Nield

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is satisfied, having regard to the present shortage of teachers, that non-mobile teachers, for example, married women with children, are given the opportunity to teach near their homes; and whether he will consider recommending local education authorities and others to make use of the services of such persons?

Mr. Butler

As my hon. and gallant Friend will see from the Board's Circulars 1591 and 1626, copies of which I am sending him, the Board have urged upon local education authorities the importance of making the fullest possible use of all available sources of teaching power, including the employment of married women in schools near their homes. I have no reason to think that these suggestions are not being followed.
