HL Deb 20 October 1943 vol 129 cc289-90WA
THE EARL OF TANKERVILLE

asked His Majesty's Government whether it is a fact that R.A.F. and R.A.F.V.R. officers employed on ground staff duties at aerodromes in the United Kingdom are not permitted to wear R.A.F. pattern battle dress whilst on duty at their aerodromes even if they themselves purchase the battle dress; and, if so, whether it is not considered that to grant such permission would effect a considerable saving both in clothing material and in the expenditure of their very limited Service incomes when renewing worn-out uniforms.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR AIR (LORD SHERWOOD)

This subject has recently been reconsidered, and it has now been decided to introduce R.A.F. war service dress for use by all ranks of the Royal Air Force while on ground duties at airfields. Owing to considerations of supply, the introduction of this dress will necessarily be gradual. Detailed instructions will shortly be promulgated in Air Ministry Orders.
