HC Deb 19 October 1943 vol 392 c1237W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Prime Minister why, in Orders made by the Minister of Food, the word "Minister" is always defined, whereas this practice does not appear to be adopted by other Ministers, thus conveying the impression that the Minister of Food has a different constitutional status from other Ministers?

The Prime Minister

My hon. Friend is mistaken in thinking that this definition is always included in Orders made by the Ministry of Food and never in Orders made by other Departments. In Orders where there are frequent references to a Minister, it is obviously convenient, and saves repetition, to define at the outset which Minister is referred to and, thereafter, to use throughout the shorter phrase "the Minister."
