§ Mr. Barnesasked the Minister of Production the total number of newspapers that the 11½ per cent. increase in newsprint will make available for circulation; whether he was consulted and authorised this increase; and what were the reasons advanced for the expansion of this industry at this period of the war?
§ Mr. Garro JonesThe total number of newspapers that will be available after the recent increase in the supply of paper is about 19 millions day, an increase of about 2,000,000 a day. This increase was authorised by my right hon. Friend, to meet the heavy demand for newspapers, particularly for the Forces.
