HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 c1062W
Mr. Lawson

asked the Minister of Production whether he is aware that the North-East of England has been deprived of the normal building of factories compared with the developments in other parts of the country; and whether any steps are being taken to deal with this matter?

Mr. Garro Jones

I am aware that the resources of the North-East of England have not been as fully used as those of some other parts of the country for war production purposes. It is the policy of the Government to locate new production in this and other under-loaded regions as opportunity offers, but at the present stage of our production programme only a relatively small number of new factories are being built.
