HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 cc1064-5W
Mr. Kirby

asked the Home Secretary why members of a certain N.F.S. training school, of which he has been informed, have to perform a continuous duty system of a fortnight on with a promise of two days off at the end of the course, whereas he has laid down for the service in general a uniform system of duty comprising 48 hours on and 24 hours off?

Mr. H. Morrison

The 48/24 hours duty system would not be a practicable arrangement for a residential training school. The arrangements at these schools provide, however, that, in addition to the leave at the end of the course mentioned in the Question, leave shall be granted each week-end, and short leave every evening or alternate evening. These arrangements are subject to the necessary minimum of appliances being manned and available, because these schools also serve the purposes of reserve stations.
