asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the amount of composition paid by the Bank of England under the Bank Charter Act, 1844, and the Bankers Composition Act, 1856, to other banks for the years 1939, 1940, 1941 and 1942, in consideration of the discontinuance of the issue of notes by these banks?

The amounts were £2,709 for the year 1939 and £1,709 for each of the years 1940, 1941 and 1942.
