HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 c1091W
Mr. Jackson

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is satisfied, after the experience of the past harvest, that increased cereal production is the best policy of cropping for the upland farmers of Wales; and whether he will now consider the production of new and better grass as an alternative?

Mr. Hudson

The production of new and better grass on upland farms in Wales, concurrently with the maintenance of the existing tillage area and of a sufficiency of cereals for winter stock feeding on individual farms, is an essential feature of agricultural policy. I do not anticipate that it will be necessary to ask for any further general increase of cereals on such farms.
