§ Sir E. Findlayasked the Minister of Information whether the official announcement of the Italian armistice was released for general publication simultaneously in the United States of America and Great Britain?
§ Mr. BrackenThe armistice was announced in a broadcast statement from Algiers by General Eisenhower and became effective at the time he made this statement. Arrangements had been made to secure that there should be no publication either in Britain or America prior to General Eisenhower's broadcast. But apparently, by some error, advance reports from Algiers correspondents reached the offices of news agencies in New York without any embargo withholding publication until the appointed time. The result was that the news was published in America half-an-hour before General Eisenhower's broadcast.
