§ Mr. Prittasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that in 1942 Sir Charles McGrath, then Clerk to the West Riding County Council, who had a motor car at his disposal for his official duties, took without authorisation in a period of 261 days 295 gallons of petrol from the county council's pumps and used them to run for private and pleasure purposes his private 30 h.p. car, DWT 1, for which he had an allowance of about five gallons per month; and why there is such a delay in prosecuting this case?
Major Lloyd GeorgeI referred this matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and I informed the hon. and learned Member by a letter of 30th June last that the Director had advised me that no evidence was disclosed which would warrant proceedings against Sir Charles McGrath.
