HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 cc734-5W
Mr. Tinker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why another £50,000,000 has been added to the fiduciary issue?

Sir J. Anderson

The continuing growth in the circulation is no doubt due primarily to a continuing increase in the volume of wage payments. It is also probably true that too many notes are still being hoarded; it would be very much in the interests both of the hoarders and the State that these surples notes should be deposited in a bank or invested in war loans.
