§ Sir R. Youngasked the Secretary of State for War to what extent E.N.S.A. entertainments, primarily meant for Service men, are attended by civilians and Service men thus crowded out to ensure seats for the friends of officers who may not themselves be present at the entertainments; and whether, in such cases, there is a payment for the admission of civilians which goes to Service funds?
§ Sir J. GriggInstructions lay down that, generally speaking, members of the Forces are each allowed to bring not more than two civilian friends but only if there is room for them without excluding members of the Forces. The only other civilians allowed to attend these entertainments are local civilian employees of the Service Departments. Some of the entertainments are free but where charges are made for admission the civilians pay them in the same way as Service personnel.
