HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 c756W
Sir R. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for War what action in respect of the Army he has taken to carry out the recommendations of the Select Committee on National Expenditure that the authorities of all three Services should impress on all ranks of all units the necessity of maintaining a high degree of discipline in the matter of keeping injury to the persons and property of His Majesty's subjects down to the unavoidable minimum; and whether he will quote the order or orders which have been issued?

Sir J. Grigg

Great attention is paid in the Army to the prevention of all avoidable damage in the course of exercises and this was fully recognised in the Report of the Select Committee referred to by my hon. Friend. A number of instructions and booklets on the use of land for training have been issued and a training film called "Troops Across Britain" deals with avoidance of damage to crops and agricultural property. In addition, arrangements have been made for an article to appear in an Army Training Memorandum which will draw attention to the substance of the Select Committee's recommendations. Copies of their Report are also being sent to all Army commanders.
