HC Deb 30 November 1943 vol 395 cc241-2W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will reconsider the case, details of which have been sent to him, of a pupil teacher and external student of London University, who was refused registration as a conscientious objector and although he applied for work in coalmining this application was refused; and, as this student is carrying out useful duties as assistant master in a secondary school while studying for a science degree in London University, whether he will now allow him to return to his studies?

Mr. Bevin

This young man's application for registration as a conscientious objector was rejected by both the local tribunal and appellate tribunal. His application for postponement of liability to be called up for service was refused by a Military Service (Hardship) Committee. I have no authority to interfere with their decisions. Mr. Buckley's application for work in the coal mining industry has not been refused. He has been found fit for the work and action to place him is proceeding.
