HC Deb 30 November 1943 vol 395 c236W
Mr. Hammersley

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of anxieties concerning the Government's arrangements for the disposal of surplus Government stocks, which arrangements appear to confine the proposed distribution to restricted channels, he will make an announcement defining more clearly the proposed scope and activities of Surplus Textiles Corporation, Limited?

Mr. Dalton

The function of the Surplus Textiles Corporation is to arrange for the distribution of such surplus Government stocks of new clothing and textiles arising during the war as may be offered to and accepted by the Corporation. As I explained on 2nd November in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Westhoughton (Mr. Rhys Davies), before working out the plans for post-war disposals the Board of Trade, together with the responsible departments, will consult with representatives of the producers and distributors concerned.
