HC Deb 30 November 1943 vol 395 cc243-4W
Wing-Commander Robinson

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware of the concern in Blackpool, Lytham St. Annes and the Fylde area about the proposed plan for the distribution of turkeys and geese at Christmas which may leave these areas without any supplies; and whether he will arrange that these areas receive their fair share of the national supply at Christmas?

Mr. Mabane

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply which I gave On 23rd November to the hon. Members for West Edinburgh (Lieut.-Commander Hutchison), and Reigate (Mr. Touche). From this it will be seen that, while turkeys and geese from Northern Ireland will not be directed to Blackpool, Lytham St. Annes and the Fylde area, consumers and caterers there who pur- chased home-produced or Northern Ireland poultry from a retailer who is receiving Northern Ireland supplies in one of the selected centres will be entitled to share in those supplies. Moreover, retailers in the area who purchased imported poultry before the war from a wholesaler receiving supplies of such poultry in Manchester, Liverpool or others of the eleven centres will be entitled to a share of Eire turkeys and geese. Home produced supplies should also be available to retailers through the normal trade channels.
