HC Deb 11 November 1943 vol 393 c1307W
Mr. Evelyn Walkden

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that estate agents in London suburbs are now demanding payment of sums of money up to £5 before giving any information to potential clients who may wish to inspect empty houses with a view to tenancy; that this fee is intended to protect the owner against the risk of information being given which may lead to requisitioning by the local authority; and whether he will take steps to stop this practice?

Mr. E. Brown

I am not aware of the practice to which my hon. Friend refers, but I shall be glad to see any information on the matter which he may care to send me. I would remind him, however, that the object of the present arrangements is to ensure, whether by action taken by the owner or tenant, or by requisitioning, that all empty houses are occupied.
