Major Lloydasked the Minister of Fuel and Power how many recorded cases there are in the last six months of strippers in the Scottish coalmines leaving their work early without cleaning their places and filling a much larger proportion of dirt than in pre-war days?
Major Lloyd GeorgeThe number of strippers reported in the last six months for the reasons stated is 112; 86 warning letters have been issued and 19 cases have been recommended for prosecution. Seven cases are still under consideration.
Major Lloydasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps are being taken in Scotland to put a stop to the practice of strippers in the coalmines deliberately reducing their stent or face stop to that of the lowest producer?
Major Lloyd GeorgeOn receipt of a report in Scotland that strippers are deliberately reducing output a member of the Labour Director's staff interviews the management and the trade union representatives of the men concerned. Thereafter he normally inspects the working place and discusses with the men the reasons for reduced output. Such a procedure has in many cases led to satisfactory results. When the reduction in output is wilful and persistent those responsible are recommended for prosecution under the appropriate section of the Essential Work Order.
