HC Deb 11 November 1943 vol 393 c1315W
Sir T. Moore

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he has yet completed his survey of the women employed in Government Departments with a view to ascertaining whether they are appropriately employed in respect of their age group; whether they are usefully employed in respect of their capacity and whether they are fully employed in respect of their numbers; and, if so, with what result?

Mr. Assheton

Responsibility for ensuring that all staff employed by Government Departments are usefully and fully employed rests with the individual Ministers. The appropriateness of employing in Departments women in certain age groups is kept under constant review by my right hon. Friend in consultation with the Minister of Labour; and in the result, many thousands of young women have been released from the Civil Service for the Armed Forces and for war industry. That process is continuing.
