HC Deb 11 November 1943 vol 393 c1319W
Dr. Little

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food the basis on which the price of Northern Ireland potatoes is fixed; and why this price is considerably lower, in most instances, than that paid for British potatoes?

Mr. Mabane

The basis for fixing the price of potatoes, whether grown in Northern Ireland or Great Britain, is to add to the pre-war price of each variety and class an amount representing subsequent increases in cost of production per ton of potatoes. The pre-war differences in prices in different areas in the United Kingdom have therefore been maintained.
