§ Mr. A. Edwardsasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the case of an insured patient on whom £2,300 has been spent for drugs prescribed by doctors; whether there is any limit to the expense that may be incurred for drugs prescribed by doctors under the National Health Insurance; and how many similar cases have involved exceptional expenditure?
§ Mr. E. BrownI am aware of the case in question. There is no limit to the expense which may be incurred for drugs which are necessary for the proper treatment of an insured person. I believe the sum involved in this case is quite exceptional, though there have been a number of cases in which drugs to the value of several hundreds of pounds have been supplied for an insured person.
