§ Mr. G. Griffithsasked the Minister of Fuel and Power why ex-miners over 44 years of age and whose medical category is below B I are kept in the Army while young men from the land colliery-surface workers are sent to work down coalmines?
§ Mr. T. SmithThe first part of the Question was answered on 4th May by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War. The coalmining industry is suffering from a general shortage of young underground workers and the decision of the Government that there can be no further release of ex-miners from the Forces only adds to the value of the arrangements referred to in the second part of the Question.
