HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 cc44-5W
Major Lloyd

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether, in view of the great importance of the Glasgow area from a transport point of view, he will consider increasing the powers of the Glasgow and West of Scotland regional transport officer or else make this officer independent of the regional transport commissioner in Edinburgh?

Mr. Noel-Baker

While, of course, I recognise the importance of Glasgow from a transport point of view, I am not satisfied that the separation of Glasgow from the rest of Southern Scotland for the purpose of transport control would promote either the general interest or even the interest of the travelling public of Glasgow. I shall be glad to receive any further evidence on the matter which my hon. and gallant Friend may send me, but, as at present advised, I think no advantage would be attained by altering the present administrative arrangements.
