HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 c54W
Mrs. Cazalet Keir

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the announcement that Members of Parliament will work with harvest volunteers at the rate of 1s. an hour, and that women will earn only 10d. an hour, it is proposed that Members of Parliament who undertake this work should be paid the same irrespective of their sex?

Mr. Hudson

The rates of wages paid by farmers must be not less than the minimum rate fixed by the Agricultural Wages Board. Subject to this, volunteers are free to agree with their employers what their actual wages shall be.
