HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 c53W
Major Lyons

asked the Minister of Health whether he is now satisfied that extortionate rentals are being had by tenants of unfurnished flats in the London district who have put in one or two articles of furniture in the rooms and sub-let them as furnished flats; and whether he will take steps to end this practice immediately and prevent any such renewals?

Miss Horsbrugh

No, Sir, Section 10 of the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest Restrictions Act, 1923, was designed to prevent action of the kind referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend. I have no reason to believe that it is ineffective in its operation, but I shall be glad to make inquiries into any case which my hon. and gallant Friend may bring to my notice.
