BrownAmong approximately 3,731,000 children immunised against diphtheria under local authority arrangements in England and Wales during the 53W three years 1940, 1941 and 1942, the number of notified cases of the disease was 7,286. The number of immunised children who died from diphtheria during 1942 was 41, as compared with 1,473 deaths among non-immunised children.
