§ Mr. Manderasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the Inland Revenue authorities claim to be entitled to levy double Income Tax, by way of supplementary assessment, upon the remaining property of deceased persons' estates because the destruction by enemy action of a substantial portion of such estates has reduced the income below the amount of annuities provided for widows by deceased testators; and whether he will consider the introduction into the forthcoming Finance Bill of an amendment to existing Acts to prevent such a claim being made in such cases?
