HL Deb 16 March 1943 vol 126 cc701-2WA
THE EARL OF CORK AND ORRERY

asked His Majesty's Government whether, in view of the near approach of St. Patrick's Day, an exception will be made in the recently promulgated Regulation forbidding the importation of flowers, etc., into this country in the case of shamrock sent from Ireland to Irishmen living or serving in England and Scotland.

THE MINISTER OF WAR TRANSPORT (LORD LEATHERS)

I assume that my noble and gallant friend refers to the restrictions placed on the carriage of flowers by rail or by post. The matter has been carefully considered, but I regret that no special concession can be made for shamrock.

House adjourned.
