§ Mr. AsshetonAppointments to the Civil Service are at present made through the agency of the Ministry of Labour and National Service, which has been advised not to submit the names of conscientious objectors for vacancies in Government Departments. By way of exception, one or two conscientious objectors with specialist qualifications have been engaged for urgent scientific work in cases where it has been established that no other suitably qualified candidates were available. Otherwise no staff known to be conscientious objectors have been recruited.
