HC Deb 10 June 1943 vol 390 c863W
Mr. Kirby

asked the Minister of Health if he can give any information regarding the trend of population in Liverpool, stating the figures for 1939 and the latest possible date and the reasons for differences?

Mr. E. Brown

The population of Liverpool in 1939 immediately before the war was estimated at 822,400, a figure to which it had fallen from the total of 855,688 enumerated at the census of 1931. Movements since 1939 have been occasioned almost wholly by the circumstances of the war and their identification and disclosure would be contrary to the public interest at the present time.
