The expenditure on the purchase of general books for prison libraries in the years in question was as follows:

Further books to the value of £233 7s. 10d. were received but not paid for in this year. In addition, approximately £100 was spent in each year on the purchase of books for the central library of technical and educational books at Wakefield Prison.
