HC Deb 21 July 1943 vol 391 c922W
Mr. Naylor

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that General Eisenhower, at a conference of Press representatives held in mid-June at which about 100 Pressmen were present, imparted information, which he asked them to keep secret, to the effect that Sicily would be the first point of invasion within a month; and whether, in view of the possibility of such advance information leaking out to the enemy, notwithstanding non-publication in the Press, steps will be taken to warn British commanding officers against giving information to Pressmen concerning prospective military operations?

The Prime Minister

I have no information in regard to the first part of the Question. As regards the second part of the Question, very full and precise instructions are already in force. In view of the tactical surprise effected and of the result achieved in the present operations no addition to these instructions appears to be necessary.
