HC Deb 21 July 1943 vol 391 cc917-8W
Mr. Lindsay

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the approximate annual budget of the Sea Cadet Corps; and how many personnel are employed full time in its direction?

Mr. Alexander

The Admiralty control of the Sea Cadet Corps involves the delegation of matters of administration and welfare to recognised central associations, to which financial grants are made. These grants amounted in the last financial year to approximately£37,000. The duties of direction at the Admiralty devolve upon the Admiral Commanding Reserves and at the present time he has a staff (including clerks) of 16 engaged wholly or in part on sea cadet work at headquarters, together with eight area officers to supervise the work of the various units. Details of the expenditure incurred and staff employed by central associations in connection with Sea Cadets are not available at the Admiralty.
