HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c332W
Sir P. Hurd

asked the Attorney-General whether he will consider the suggestion made at the Sussex Assizes by Mr. Justice Croom-Johnson that a woman who entices a husband away from another woman should be made as liable as a man co-respondent in a divorce suit?

The Attorney-General

I have formed the opinion that the change in the law suggested would be controversial, and as under the present law the petitioning wife can obtain an order for alimony against the husband during the divorce proceedings and for maintenance after the decree (though a husband, of course, has no corresponding support from a respondent wife), and as the wife can recover damages in a separate action against any woman who has enticed her husband, it cannot be said that the injured woman is without remedy.
